1988 Sporty 1200 build

Here is the Sporty I picked up for myself a while back I'm trying to get this one done before The Pancho Run in May. I was a runner when I picked it up except for fuel leaking out of the over flow barb and some bad gas , I fixed those problems and rode it around the block a few times. Then preceded to take it apart.
The majority of the build is being put together with parts I had in the shop. So far I changed the tank, made a new oil bag, some new bars , cut both fenders down raised the rear added some iron head fender braces and stuck a bates repop seat pan on it and cut up the stock exhaust and added some fish tail ends to them.I'm gettin closer to finishing up the fab work then all the tin will go out to powder coat and a simplified re wire on the electrical system.

Joe's seat

Just finished this seat up for Joe.It's going on his1997 Harley Heritage Springer . Joe is simply put a "Bad Ass" from the details that i've gotten from him he can pretty much kill you ,bring you back to life, then kill you again and is over in Afghanistan doing what he does best.
He wanted his job to be displayed proudly on this seat and wanted it to look as if someone has really beat the shit out of the seat itself. I did this by distressing it with a dremel tool and a emory file. Then brought if back with some oil and leather conditioner.
I still have to finish up the p-pad for this seat so I'll be working on that next.

Brains BSA David bird Hardtail

Welded on this BSA David Bird hardtail for Brain and added some gussets on the bottom frame rails for added strength. I have gotta tell you David Bird Makes one hell of a product. His welds are flawless and the damn hardtail fit like a glove to the stock loop which made it real easy to get a good weld . Hats off to Mr.Bird for putting out such a good product.

Nathans Modified Tc bros Hardtail

Nathan brought me this hardtail with his front loop which had been cut up by the previous owner. After leveling the motor and frame in the jig. I noticed there was a huge gap where seat stays welded into the stock frame loop . So I called up Nathan and he brought over the installation instructions ,sure as shit it says in the instructions that the frame rails wont look straight but when you put it into a roller it would look straight. Right on,!! Except the fact that the motor would be leaning back, Not good for the oiling lines at the front of the motor and the floats in the carbs.
Any ways It was an easy fix I stuck the seat stays in the bender and bent them down six degrees. which leveled everything out. This also took away the funky steepness of the hartail also.
once all that was done I welded in the seat cross member and the bottom rail cross member and reinstalled the engine stay cross member that the previous owner had cut out.

Limey's XS650

Finally finished up the fab work for Limey's 2" under XS650 Speed way Style . With the help of the new addition to the shop Adrian S.
There is a shit ton of fab work into this frame. Custom split tanks ,tanks mounts, hardtail, reworked clipon's ,kick stand cut of and rewelded to fit the lower frame, and a complete rear brake assembly made to work on the Susuki titan rear hub.and the last thing was the rear fender mounts and struts. all in all this thing is going to be one sick little bike when Limey gets the motor and paint done i'll be sure to post some more pics up.

Aluminum Speed Way Tanks for XS650

Back at the tail end of May I had finished up Limey's looped 2" under frame and I talked him into letting me make some split aluminum Speed wayish tanks for his build. I hand formed these over some MDF forms which really sucked for my arm's. Had some some snags with getting my frame mounting bungs made( I really need to get a lathe) But I finally had some time to finish them up. Took a few pics with them up against the Salt Racer just so you can get a feel for how they are going to look on the XS650 frame.They aint perfect but they sure look cool!!!

Just finished up this seat for Paul in San Antonio, I meet Paul at The Working Man's Motorcycle and Art Show in June he really dug my leather work and commissioned me to do this seat for his super custom rat bike named.... You guessed it "KING RAT". I opted for the grey Rat Fink for this since Paul's going to let the bikes frame and tins rust out naturally.

Bracket for Brass Balls Seat Shocks

Fabricated this simple bracket for a set of Brass Balls Seat Shocks. These are going on the Rat Fink seat on the previous post. Since the customer already had the Seat Shocks and the bottom of the Rat Fink Seat was already wrapped in leather the simple solution was to make this bracket to weld the shock mounting tabs to.

Charlie " The Nomad's " Kidney belt

Charlie called me up awhile back and said he had put a weight belt that he picked up somewhere in mail and asked if I could do something with it. I said no prob.. When I showed up I realized that it was pretty old ,had stains and very dry. I had always heard that you could not not tool old leather especially if it had been sealed.(which it was) .
Well I decided to try it anyways . I found out that it is possiable but you really have to prep the leather well.When I began to tool it, it took multiple passes to get the tooling to hold and was also the same with the dying stage. All in all it worked but I really had to work for it and I probably wont do it again (using an old weight belt that is)

Just finished this seat up for Josh over at Tail End Customs . It came out pretty slick with a nice profile view of the clear powder coated pan sandwiched between the two pieces of leather. This along with the screw back rivets are really going to set his bare metal tank off.

He dug it enough to have one made for himself. We did this on a Bate's repop seat pan that I carry (super comfy) and still have to do a matching bolt on P-Pad . These are crappy pics but I dropped the frame off with Chris over at Limey Bikes already. He asked for a 2" under looped hardtail , and guess what that's what he got. Imagine that.
I was kinda hesitant with the idea of it at first, but after looking up some of the old flat trackers and sonic weld frames from back in the day it grew on me. Chris has some crazy plans for this bike so stay tuned for updates.

Got the bones down for the seat and cut up an old gas tank I had laying around the shop to make the rear fender . Then I made a simple offset brake stay for the rear drum. I still have to take the fender over to a buddy's and smooth out my hammer marks with his english wheel. But other than that this is what it's going to look like.

Just finished up this seat for Nick. He said do what you want. From my end it can't get any better than that.
The one thing he said was people called his bike "The Beast". That's when the light bulb switched on! "Iron Fucking Maiden" . So drew the design showed it to Nick he dug it and here it is.
This seat did pose its few problems thou. It isn't symmetrical so I had to make it look it was. I can still see where it isn't but for the most part it looks pretty damn good.

Revamping the bag.

So Teacher John gave me this bag awhile back to freshen up. It's been sitting on my work table since mocking me cause I for the life of me couldn't figure out how to add something with out making it look like shit. Because the bag had already been dyed I couldn't tool on it so a simple carving with the swivel knife was the best option. Along with the webs I added the black dye around the name to make it stick out, I also used an antiquing gel on the whole bag to give it a little more life and character and topped it off by dyeing and waxing the edges to keep it sealed up.
All in all the bag turned out better than I expected and looks like it was made that way to begin with which was my goal.

So this was an interesting project to do. Not typical of what I normally do but when I am faced with a challenge I take it on at full speed. The design of the wallet is new also . It is mainly for Credit cards and change . The pocket with the leather latch is big enough to carry that necessary change we all need from time to time.

Billy's Glock 22 holster

My buddy Dennis came by and asked if I had time to make a concealed holster for his father- in- laws Glock 22. I had a small break in between orders so I said sure. His father-in-law Billy was only in town for a couple of days so since this is a surprise he had to go and sneak the gun out of Billy's hotel room and bring by my house so I could wet mold the leather to it. (That there is just funny as hell as I play that out in my head.)
This was my first attempt at a molded holster but it did come out sweet as hell.

Chris's KZ 440 chop

Chris came over last night and we changed some things on his build. Remember folks this is a low budget build. All the parts so far are whatever the hells lying around the shop at the time. Now that we have a good direction on this build with parts and all. We are going to start making and welding tabs,gussets, and bungs to start finalizing all the locations of everything.

Stainless exhaust for xs650 "Salt Racer"

Got the exhaust done on the "Salt Racer" today. I up'ed the size to 1.75" and made some clean simple pipes for this one. They flow well with the over all look of the bike.
Since they are stainless I will just scotch bright them and polish for the finished look.

Well Josh came down from Brownwood today to pick up the "Frisco". It was kinda surreal helping him and his dad load her up into the back of their pick up and then seeing them drive off.I got kind of a empty feeling in my gut like i was loosing a part of me. It's the same feeling I had when I sold my first build.
There's a bond between that metal and myself and it will always be there .Good bye my friend and thanks for sticking by myside and being so good to me for the past 2 years.

Elephant Seat

This is Damian's seat from San Antonio. He showed up at my house with a whole elephant hide and wanted a seat made with it. The tannery shaved the hide down way to much ( you could see day light through it if you held it up to the sun) So I had to glue it to a piece of cow hide to make sure it wouldn't rip or tear down the line.
The back of it is molded to the custom pan also. The seat turned out pretty cool.

Tunnel tool and tunnel done

The last time i did a tunnel was for Chris at Limey Bikes . It was a pain in the ass to do cause I opted to do it the old fashioned way and bend the metal by hand over a piece of rigid conduit. Yeah that sucked!
This time around I saw this write up on Chop Cult and used it to my benefit.

The whole segment is really awesome and I used almost all of it as a step by step to split,narrow and tunnel this tank. Big shout out to Jay Roche from Special 79 for taking the time to show us the step by step on how to do this ourselves.

Tunnel and moon disc

So I got the bottom of the tank welded in and cut out ready for the tunnel. I also got the moon disc in from Moon Eyes although I had to send them back to get the proper dish depth. I ran into issues with the speedo gear on the front wheel and also the drum side of the rear wheel. Bob at Moon Eyes has really helped me out on this. Thanks Brother !
It's really an awesome feeling seeing this thing come together after years of just a thought in the back of my head.
I should have the new moon disc's sometime in the next two weeks . So till then I'll finish up the tank and maybe start on the exhaust. enjoy the pics guys!

tank bottom

The first step I took on this was to make a poster board template making sure to arch the poster board with the arch in the bottom of the tank. This was done to insure I had plenty of material to work with. I then transferred it to MDF and routed the edges with a quarter round bit. This was done to make sure once i started to roll the edges I would get a smooth roll. Once that edges were rolled over the form I had to create the arch in the tank bottom to match the tank. What I did was make small cuts in on the edges and then beat the arch into it with a rubber mallet.
Once I get the bottom welded in place I will start on the tunnel. Till then thanks for looking!

I cut up the Cole Foster tank today. Took about 1 1/4" at the top and about 5/8" at the rear.
It came out just the way I wanted it to. It Slimmed out the bulky front just enough to make it flow a little better. Next step a new tunnel.

Finally got out in the shop today to work on my Salt Racer project. Got the engine set in the frame so i could start fabing up the exhaust and mid-controls. I also set the tank on which is a Cole Foster replica.It looks good but I'm thinking that I am going to narrow it about an inch and a half and take the rib out of it, In doing that I'm going to redo the tunnel with a nice rounded one that fits the frame better. Made a seat for Charlie "The Nomad" last year and he wasn't sure what bike he was going to rock the seat on. So it sat for some time.
Then about three days before this years Stampede i get a txt at like 1:00 am in the morning .
Say's "hey man i am rocking your seat on the Stampede" .
Yeah this means Charlie road some where over 3047 in under something like 52 hrs or something. On a hardtail cb750 that was rocking a Working Mans Customs seat.

WOW!!! This year was a blast! Apart from my electrical box falling off and a loose wire, and some rain the ride was awesome I blazed out on Saturday morning but the night before was absolutely insane and we will just leave it at that. Here are a few pics from one of the campsites and a few bikes on the ride. Till next year Pancho!!!

So this is based on a seat I did when I first started up. It was one of a few seats that I did as inventory seats. The design is one that I am comfortable replicating with a little twist each time. This one was commissioned by Frankie. Thanks Brotha for the opportunity to rethink and redesign this seat.

Matts sissy and bag

Finally got the sissy bar slash luggage rack i fabricated , back from the powder coater's today. Got it bolted on and slid the 12pack bag on it. The combo came out pretty sweet and the bag fit like a glove.Now it just needs a 12pack of Tecate's in it!!

I got to finally meet Jeff of Saint Motorbikes and see first hand what an awesome bike he built.
I have to hand it to Trent of Biker Metric for putting all this together and pushing what I believe is the future of this industry( Garage built, affordable, Kick ass bikes).

So here's the seat I did for Trent over at Biker Metric . For his Freedom Or Death build.
This seat was a little different to do because, Trent is a graphic designer and lets just say "He likes layers upon layers. I had to simplify it and reduce the layers but I think I got pretty damn close to the original design.

Chris's KZ440 chop

This is Chris's Kz 440 , He was given this bike by a buddy of his after his buddy dropped it and messed up his leg. Chris had the KZ for about 6 months then decided to make the move and have it chopped. We ordered the TC bros Hardtail kit instead buying and bending the tubing myself simply cause the price metal went up and since we're trying to get this done on the cheep it was the best option. This little KZ is turning out pretty cool ! keep posted for more updates.

stainless xs650 pipes

Did these pipes for Chris "Limey" .. They are 1.75" O.D so I had my machinist (Tyler) machine some new exhaust flanges for it out of 1/2'" stainless and I pieced the pipes together. The cone came from Apollo Cones, top notch and American made check him out at http://www.apollocones.com/products.html
